Josh Jager, Marketing Director
Hello everyone! My name is Josh Jager and I am an Outdoor Recreation major. I was born in Kentucky and lived all over the United States so I am open to different view and cultures.
I attended the first ever Dawg Days, then came back to become a camp leader and benefit from every second of it. I would not be in this position today if Molly O'Hara, the mastermind for Dawg Days, had not stumbled upon this university.
Some of the things that I enjoy in my free time is rock climbing and riding my bike around when I can. Do not be afraid to say, "Hello!" to me on campus.
Katrina Medernach, Camp Director
Hey everyone! My name is Katrina and I am a sophomore double majoring in Therapeutic and Outdoor Recreation. I am an original Dawg Days participant from 2015 and can honestly say that it truly made SIU and Southern Illinois home. I have worked out at Touch of Nature Environmental Center since the spring of my freshman year and worked Camp Little Giant this past summer. While I love Southern Illinois, I can't wait to get out west and explore. I enjoy canoeing, kayaking, long road trips and just about every type of music.
Can't wait to see y'all at camp!
Sara O'Hare, Program Development and Staff Recruitment Director
Hey there folks!! My name is Sara O'Hare. I am from a southwest suburb of Chicago, IL called New Lenox which just east of Joliet. Here at SIU Carbondale I am an undergraduate sophomore majoring in Therapeutic Recreation with a track in Occupational Therapy (OT) and a minor in American Sign Language (ASL). Dawg Days has been such an important part of my journey here at SIU, from my participation as a camper in the first ever Dawg Days in the summer of 2015 to being a counselor in the summer of 2016 and now being a director for the summer of 2017! Dawg Days has really shaped my new home in Southern Illinois into something beautiful. I have been working at SIU's Touch of Nature Environmental Center since January 2016 as an Environmental Education Aid working programs and camps such as Girl Scout Camp and Dawg Days. I love reptiles, going canoeing, and exploring the beauty of my surroundings. As said in Disney-Pixar's Up, "Adventure is out there!", come join us for your first adventure as a Saluki at the 2017 Dawg Days Freshman Retreat!
JD Tanner, Touch of Nature Environmental Center Director
I have been working with educational and non-profit institutions for over 16 years now. I am a Saluki, having earned my master’s degree in outdoor recreation administration from SIU in 2009 and earned a degree in recreation with an emphasis in outdoor leadership and therapeutic recreation from Southeast Missouri State University in 2003.
I have a passion for getting people outdoors, especially college students. I have led college outdoor expeditions all over the lower 48 states, Alaska and Mexico. I have published and lectured extensively on topics including outdoor education, sustainability, experiential education, student retention, and spending time outdoors without adversely affecting the environment.
I can't wait to meet you and help you Find Your Adventure at SIU!
